Simple tips for tables of solid wood

SIMPLE TIPS FOR TABLES OF SOLID WOOD

  • Always carry out cleaning and treatment along the longitudinal direction of the wood
  • Never sand with steel wool
  • Solid extra leaves must be aired on both sides to prevent the leaves from warping. Thus you should store only one solid leaf in the storage under the table - whereas two veneered leaves can be stored together
  • Avoid trivets of cork! Heat and moist can penetrate to the table top
  • Be very careful not to place hot or cold things such as tea mugs on a lacquered table top, as the moist may result in white discolorations on the table
  • Be careful not to place solid wood tables near heat sources such as a wood stove or radiator
  • Avoid too much direct sunlight
  • Solid wood tables should never be covered permanently with oilcloth or similar airtight material for extended periods
  • Always ask your furniture dealer when in doubt
